HIStory Stonewall Creek Vineyards began in 2004 with the purchase of a cabin, a barn, and 5.8 acres of previous orchard property. In 2004, Carl and Carla Fackler purchase the first property (cabin, barn and 5.8 acres of land). Carl Fackler, former owner of Stonewall Creek Vineyards, planted the first 150 vines in 2005 of the Malbec grape. In 2008, we harvested our first Malbec crop 3 years after planting. We harvested 450 lbs of grapes. In 2009 we began building the main house that would eventually house our Tasting Room as well. In 2009 the Diehls help harvest 1 ton of grapes, as well as, purchased 300 lbs of Malbec from Stonewall Creek Vineyards and made their first Georgia Wine called Family Legends Malbec wine. 2010 Diehls help plant Vin 4, Cabernet Franc. Every year we host the “I Love Lucy” style Harvest Stomp in late September early October – here are two “stompers” getting their feet purple in 2011. Current owner Mark Diehl works with then owner, Carl Fackler setting a variable capacity lid in the wine making process 2012. The Fall is the most beautiful time in the vineyard. Here it is in 2012. In 2013, we were visited by Katie Smith and her friend on horseback. Wine tasting while horseback riding may not be legal in Rabun County but it sure is fun! The vines were maturing and the rose bushes are in full bloom indicative of the good health of the vineyard in 2015. During the course of 2016, the Diehls along with the Fackler family and friends helped plant one acre of Petit Manseng. 1,000 vines were planted on hands and knees that day. We hosted a Solar Eclipse party for guests and fans of our wines to help us celebrate a momentous occasion in 2017. 2017 UGA trellis, pruning and leaf removal experiments begin in the vineyard. The first Traminette grape harvest,1330 lbs in 2018. We were so proud of 2018 as the total harvest yielded 11.5 tons. The current Stonewall Creek Vineyards acreage is 20 acres of farm property with 7 acres of growing vines. Here are our Malbec grapes almost at their peak prior to harvest.
